What foods cannot be microwaved?
Using a microwave to heat food is both convenient and fast,
but not all types of food are suitable for microwave heating. Foods with shells, membranes, or skins should not be microwaved.
This is because microwaves operate by emitting electromagnetic waves, causing water molecules in the food to vibrate and generate heat. Heating causes the water inside the food to turn into steam, leading to an increase in internal pressure and volume. The presence of shells or membranes prevents steam from escaping, potentially causing the ingredients to burst.
Therefore, it’s important to note that foods like shrimp, crab, chicken eggs, and chestnuts with shells should not be microwaved. Similarly, fruits with skins, such as tomatoes, grapes, and whole apples, may also burst during the microwaving process.
Pay attention to safety precautions when using a microwave to ensure your electrical safety.
